7 cauli oat variations to try now

Hey y’all. It’s spring, but temps haven’t hit above 70 yet (um why do I have this expectation here in Boston? Unclear)… which means I’m still reaching for cozy breakfasts.

Though to be honest, cauliflower oats are a year-round meal. I even found a way to make cauli oats into overnight cauli oats so I could eat it cold during the summer.

I love cauli oats for same reason I love oatmeal and toast — they’re a beautiful canvas for anything your heart desires. Savory? Sure (though I haven’t fully gone that route yet). Sweet? Of course. Somewhere in between? Even better.

I’ve rounded up my top cauli oat recipes for you, so you can get inspired on what to do with yours — enjoy!

Base Cauli Oats Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen cauliflower rice

  • 1/2 banana (omit for keto)

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened dairy free milk

  • 1/4 cup hot water

  • 1 scoop collagen (omit for vegan or sub with vegan protein powder)

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tbsp flaxseed meal

  • 1 tbsp shredded coconut (optional)

  • Pinch of cinnamon

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir.

  2. Microwave for 2 minutes. Stir again and microwave longer in 30 second increments until cauliflower has softened, if necessary.

  3. Top with whatever you want (see below!) and enjoy :)

  1. Bacon Mocha Cauli Oats with Black Sesame Tahini

This is 10/10 my favorite variation. Mostly because bacon. And coffee.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Add 1 scoop Vital Proteins Mocha Collagen Creamer, 1 tbsp cacao powder, pinch of cinnamon. Replace the hot water with hot coffee (or add cold brew / espresso).

TOP WITH: ButcherBox uncured sugar-free bacon, Wildways espresso grain free granola (nancy10 for 10% off), Woodstock Foods organic walnuts, frozen organic blueberries, large pink Himalayan sea salt, Eden Foods black sesame spread.

2. Fall Cauli Oats with Cranberry Sauce

This is like Thanksgiving in a bowl, and every time fall hits, I think about this. Get the full recipe here.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Add more cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, vanilla extract, to taste.

TOP WITH: That's it.™ Apple + Cinnamon Zesty bar, 1 scoop almond butter (I used Georgia Grinders'AP20 to get 20% off your order), pumpkin seeds (I used GoRaw sprouted pumpkin seeds), 1 scoop Kite Hill Unsweetened Greek-Style Yogurt (or normal Greek yogurt, if you're not dairy free), 1 scoop homemade cranberry sauce (I microwaved organic cranberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla extract), dry roasted almonds and cashews, 1/2 banana, pink Himalayan sea salt.

3. Cinnamon Ice Cream Cauli Oats

And you thought ice cream was just for dessert. Not the prettiest (sorry) but pretty damn good for summertime.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Use cold brew instead of the nut milk.

TOP WITH: Snow Monkey Cacao ice cream (it’s made with bananas mostly!), frozen blackberries and blueberries, sprouted sunflower seeds (I used Go Raw).

4. Mixed Berry Cauli Oats

Berries, dairy free yogurt, and a secret ingredient makes this protein-packed and creamy.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Add frozen raspberries before microwaving. Mix in dairy free yogurt (I like Kite Hill Greek Unsweetened).

TOP WITH: Fuel for Fire Banana Cacao squeeze pouch (or just use nut butter, but I LOVE this on top of my cauli oat bowls), frozen blueberries, frozen blackberries, sprouted sunflower seeds (I used Go Raw).

5. Strawberry Banana Cauli Oats

A classic combo.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Add 1/2 more banana and 5 frozen or fresh strawberries before microwaving (alternatively, you could use a Strawberry Banana Fuel for Fire pouch).

TOP WITH: Frozen raspberries, frozen cherries, sprouted sunflower seeds, crunchy almond butter (I used Georgia Grinders'AP20 to get 20% off).

6. Hidden Veggie Cauli Oats

Even more veggies, if possible!

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Add 1/4 cup shredded frozen spinach and 1/4 cup zucchini rice. Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, and 1/2 more banana.

TOP WITH: Frozen blueberries, 1/2 banana, creamy almond butter (I used Georgia Grinders'AP20 to get 20% off), 1/2 Pumpkin Spice RXBar.

7. Keto Mexican Mocha Cauli Oats

The newest addition to the fam.

TO MAKE IT: Take the base cauli oats recipe. Take out the banana. Add 1/4 cup butternut squash, 2 tbsp GoodMix Paleo Mix, 1 scoop Ancient Nutrition Keto Cocoa, 1 scoop Perfect Keto Chocolate MCT Oil Powder, 1 scoop Vital Proteins Mocha Collagen Creamer, pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt.

TOP WITH: Frozen blueberries, coconut butter (I used Gopal’s), cacao nibs (I used Natierra).
